The President

Dr. Laura Monks

Laura Monks was named the sixth President of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Shelbyville on November 1, 2017 and the first women to hold this position at the institution since the institution opened in 1964. Her responsibilities include providing administrative oversight for the institution’s thirteen training programs and four campus locations.

 

Prior to her position at TCAT Shelbyville, she served in various leadership roles at Motlow State Community College, for 22 years.  She currently serves as the Presidential Advisor to the Women in Higher Education in Tennessee organization, as a board member on the Bedford County Tennessee Rehabilitation, and as a founding member of the Power of 100 Women in Lincoln County. She is a Tennessee Promise Mentor and she chairs the Fayetteville Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce Education sub-committee.

 

An advocate for student success and workforce development, Ms. Monks is in her 28th year of serving students and communities in the southern middle Tennessee area.

 

Ms. Monks holds a Doctorate in Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Memphis, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University, and an Associate’s Degree from Motlow State Community College.
