TCAT COVID-19 Updates for August, 2020

TCAT Shelbyville is operating under the necessary guidelines for the health of our students and employees: 1) Governor Lee's Unified Command Group, 2) the Tennessee Pledge for Higher Education, and 3) CDC guidelines.

Instructors are able to provide detailed guidance on how social distancing occurs in their classrooms and labs. Our educational goal is for students to continue working toward graduation by gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in the workplace. To accomplish this, interaction with the faculty is very important so that students can demonstrate critical thinking and have discussions with the instructor.

Precautions for Returning to Campus

The following precautions are being implemented as part of the college’s plan for return to campus.

  • Students and employees who have tested positive for Covid-19 may not return to work for a minimum of ten days with the last three days being symptom free and/or per the instructions of a medical provider.
  • Students who are quarantined but able to work from home may be permitted to do so online, as the curriculum allows.
  • Daily screening of all people coming to campus for Covid-19 symptoms with the following questions:
  1. Have you been in close contact with a confirmed case of Covid-19?
  2. Are you experiencing a cough, shortness of breath, or sore throat?
  3. Have you had a fever in the last 48 hours?
  4. Have you had a new loss of taste or smell?
  5. Have you had vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours?
  • Require employees and students to wear a cloth (or other type) face mask while on campus in common areas or when in person to person interactions. They may supply their own facemask or use one provided by the school.
  • Prohibiting congregating in break rooms and other common areas and limit capacity of these spaces to permit social distancing of at least 6 feet.
  • Perform routine cleaning and disinfecting of campus spaces daily or upon completion of use.

Employees or students who are being tested for COVID-19 are to inform their supervisor or instructor. Administration will work individually with each case to determine the next steps in terms of continuing any essential work from home should the individual desire to do so.

In the case of employees or students who report a positive test result, administration will work to perform contact tracing and notification according to the current recommendations of CDC, the Tennessee Health Department, and any other related emergency agency guidance.
