TCAT-Shelbyville CAD Technology/SkillsUSA students presented a design project to the Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce onTuesday June 28, 2016.
One of the dreams of Allen Pitner of the Chamber Board is to have an office to better suit their needs for tourism and chamber functions. He voiced this to Roxanne Fry and Steve Schaller of TVA Economic Development. As listed on their website TVA states, “Working in concert with our partners—regional, state and community organizations—we offer site selection services, incentives, research and technical assistance to help companies locate, stay and expand existing operations in the Tennessee Valley.”
By utilizing the students, equipment, and software within the CAD Technology program, a collaborative team was formed in January 2016. Then, the old library was an empty building for sale and not being utilized. It was identified as a potential location and the project was brought to fruition. The students added skills to their resume by using 3d scanning, 3d printing, data collection, point-cloud processing, and 3d model building skills to help them to complete the project of a redesigned interior of the empty space. Steve Schaller of TVA voiced, “The students presented the project with professionalism equal to professionalism in the industry.”
